Rodia used materials and tools easily available to him, employing ingenuity rather than technical insight to combine a variety of steel elements such as pipes, U-shaped channels, and tee sections. By nestling small pipes into larger ones and fitting them into place by wedging nails into the gaps, Rodia was able to create long continuous rods that he then covered with wire mesh and cement. These steel rods were then pushed into a concrete base that Rodia had carved into the ground, providing stability and support for his Towers, the tallest of which stands at almost thirty meters. In 1954, for reasons unknown, Rodia left Watts and the Towers he had dedicated his life to build. The Cien House by Mauricio Pezo and Sofia von Ellrichshausen (Pezo von Ellrichshausen) is a seven-story concrete tower that houses the architects’ living quarters and their studio.
It has been long rumored that the tower’s round design intentionally resembled a stack of records. In fact, project designer Louis Naidorf did not even know the identity of the client when he proposed the design. The real reasons behind the circular shape were far more pragmatic. The round shape required up to twenty percent less outer wall than a rectangular structure, saving on construction costs.

Watts Towers at 100: Junk turned into art still casts a spell
Designed by Frank Gehry, the Walt Disney Concert Hall and its shiny exterior are synonymous with Los Angeles. Perched atop Bunker Hill, the bold and curvaceous building was named on a 2012 list of buildings that changed America. The Los Angeles skyline might not be as famous as Chicago’s or New York’s. But thanks to Hollywood and the movie business, LA’s got plenty of buildings that are instantly identifiable (regardless of whatever role they play on screen). On the outside the Cien House looks like a plain concrete tower but on the inside it’s all wooden walls and wooden furnishings.
New York-based architecture firm Messana O’Rorke turned a water tower on the roof deck of their client’s downtown apartment into a space for relaxation. Large numbers of tower houses can be found across Portugal, particularly in the north of the country. By the 15th century they had lost their military or residential uses, and were often either expanded into larger manors or converted into hunting lodges for the aristocracy. Two California Plaza is the fourth tallest building in Los Angeles, rising to 750 feet (230m) with 54 floors. The comedians began dating in July 2020 after Bishop slid into Berner’s Instagram DMs. While the newlyweds chose not to have any bridesmaids or groomsmen for their ceremony, Berner hosted a wild Miami bachelorette party with Miller, 26, and DeSorbo, 29, and other friends one month ago.
